Two things are certain in life: death and taxes?
Do major donors give to avoid paying taxes?
Don’t “sell” tax advantages. Your donor can get a tax deduction for giving to any organization. They don’t need you for that. They’ll give to you because they know their gifts make a difference and they know you’re grateful for their support.
My experience is that donors will take advantage of that positive tax implications of their charitable giving. But that’s not what motivates the gift.
Whatever the motivation, your job is to make the giving experience a joyous experience for the donor. They should get more out of giving to you than any other thing–charitable or otherwise–they they could do with their money.
